The tallest recorded is 378 feet tall but is usually
more like 40 to 60 feet in the landscape.
monoecious with
male flowers borne in the axils while the female
flowers are borne on the terminals of the
branches.
Evergreen needles spirally arranged on the terminal
leader, about 1/4” long, slightly appressed to
spreading, 2 ranked on the lateral shoots, 1/4 to 7/8”
long, 1/20 to 1/8” wide.
Red-brown and
fibrous bark with deep furrows and irregular
ridges.
Egg-shaped, brown
cones that ripen the first year. They are 3/4 to
1 inch in length.
