Light blue flowers are borne in flattened 3
inches diameter involucrate heads, which are
borne on long stems. The calyx is cup-shaped and
has an involucre that
is covered with dense matted gray hairs. An outer ring
of flat petals surrounds a tufted central cushion from
which dark gray stamens protrude.
Summer
Opposite, basal leaves lanceolate-linear and
glaucous stem leaves are divided into
linear segments.
