Clump forming perennial
8-12 inches tall and spread 18-24 inches.
Blue, ˝ inches long trumpet-shaped flowers are in drooping clusters on stems about 12 inches tall.
Early spring
alternate, leaves simple, basal leaves linear-lanceolate to oblong-1anceolate, stem leaves linear-lanceolate to lanceolate-elliptic, 6 inches. Leaves have a bristly pubescence.
 
 
  • 'Azurea' - Sky-blue flowers.
  • 'Blaues Meer' - Large blue flowers, 10 inches tall.
  • 'Johnson's Blue' - BIue flowers and compact growth habit, 8 inches tall.
  • 'Mawson's BIue' - Violet-blue flowers, similar to 'Munstead Blue'.
  • 'Munstead BIue' - Deep blue flowers, vigorous grower, 12 inches tall.
 
Pulmanaria is derived from pulmo, a lung and refers to the reported value of the leaves in treatment of lung diseases. In the past, leaves were even boiled in beer to treat afflicted horses.
