Polygonum cuspidaturn
Japanese Knotweed, Mexican Bamboo
5-9
Japan

Upright growing specimen, similar to bamboo (INVASIVE)
8 feet tall with a 4 feet spread
The greenish-white flowers are very small. They are borne in loose, axillary panicled racemes. The inflorescences are usually shorter than the leaves. Flowers are not important as an ornamental feature.

Alternate leaves, 4-5 inches long, ovate shape, abruptly acuminate, leaf base rounded to truncate 1 inch long petiole. The hollow main stem is ¾ inch in diameter, resembling the jointed stems of bamboo. The common name Mexican bamboo reflects this resemblance.
