Polygonum capitatum (Persicaria capitatum) Magic Carpet Polygonum, Pinkhead Knotweed Asia and New Zealand Low, dense masses of bronzy-red foliage 2-3 inches tall Flowers pink in dense heads ½ inch across. Mid-summer Alternate, leaves elliptic to 1½ long, variegated, bronze-red foliage.       Polygonum is taken from the Greek, poly, many and gany, a knee joint and refers to the swollen-jointed stems.
