Needles are borne in fascicles of 3
(occasionally in 2s), 5-10 inches long, densely
crowded, very rigid and sharp pointed,
yellow-green to dark green in color. |

Stems are smooth, orange-brown to greenish, with
a vanilla fragrance when crushed. |

Cones are terminal, nearly sessile, 3-6 inches
long, borne solitary or in clusters of 3-5,
light reddish-brown in color, with a stout,
recurved prickle on the scales. |
