Narrow, densely columnar pyramidal when young, becoming open and flat-topped with spreading, drooping branches when mature.
30-40 feet tall with a spread of 15-25 feet
Plants are monoecious. Cones are clustered and not showy.
 
Needles are borne in fascicles of 5 and 2-3 inches long, rather stiff with a bluntly pointed apex and finely toothed margins, dark green in color with bluish-white lines on the inside.
 
 
Branches are covered with dense, orange pubescence the first year.
Cones are terminal, short-stalked, 2-3 inches long, with the scales never opening.
