Whitish to pale
pink in panicles and are not considered showy.
Early summer.
Leaves 6-12 inches
long and flat. Striped in alternating colors of
green and white from top to bottom of the leaf.
This species can
become very invasive in a perennial bed or
border.
Tolerant of a wide
variety of conditions from dry sand to wet
stream banks. The foliage should be mowed down
when it becomes drab in late summer to encourage
some new growth.
Be careful using
this plant. For a groundcover in a rough area
such as a stream bank, it is great. However, if
you put it in with your perennials in a bed or
border, it will soon move all over the place.
