White daisy flowers
borne on a 6 inches long flower scape, green bracts to 2˝, upper bracts forming
an involucre beneath the inflorescence. The
flowers appear before the leaves in very early
spring.
Early spring
Basal leaves with
long petioles reniform to orbicular shaped. 16 inches wide leaf
margins are lightly toothed, upper surfaces
pubescent and lower surfaces tomentose. The leaf
petioles are channeled and winged.
Petasites
is from the Greek petasos, meaning a
broad-brimmed hat, in reference to the large
leaves.
