Eastern half of the United States and Canada

Erect plant
3-4 feet with a spread of 2 feet.
Scarlet, sometimes pink or white flowers in bracted racemes, corolla tube to 1 inch, 3 lower lobes are very narrow and reflexed.
Early to late summer.
Alternate, sessile or short petiolate, oblong-lanceolate, acute or acuminate apex, serrulate or irregularly serrate leaves to 4 inches long.
 
Partial shade and moist soil are the best growing conditions. Full sun is suitable in regions with cool summers. The soil should be amended with compost and a mulch applied to retain soil moisture. Native Lobelia is found along streams or damp meadows.
  • 'Alba' - White flowers, 2-3 feet tall. It should be grown from cuttings for true white colors.
  • 'Heather Pink' - Soft pink flowers highlight this cultivar that is similar to the species in all other areas.
