Large clump of foliage topped by erect flower stems.
Flower stems
grow 5-6 feet tall.
Small, bright
yellow flowers are carried in long, wand-like racemes 4-6 feet tall. The
racemes tower above the foliage like rockets on
a launch pad.
Early to midsummer.
The leaves are both
basal and alternate on the stems. Leaves are
hastate-cordate to
triangular, 8-12 inches long, dentately toothed. The
stems and the veins at the base of the leaf
blade are purple-black
'The Rocket' can be
found assigned to different species. Many
references list it under L. stenocephala while some
classify it as a cultivar of L. przewalskii.
Both species are closely related and will easily
cross-pollinate. This indicates that 'The
Rocket' could actually be a hybrid
