Jeffersonia diphylla Twinleaf aka Rheumatism Root Eastern North America Perennial of rich, damp woods.   White, short-lived flowers Early spring before the leaves expand. The single ovary develops into an elongate capsule with an apically pointed hinge which is hidden by the fully expanded leaves.
