Crested iris has
the typical iris flower composed of 3 sepals, 3
petals and 3 petaloid styles.
The sepals, which are 1˝-2 inches long, are blue to
violet and marked with a central white or yellow band
having 2 crested ridges. The shorter petals are bluish
to violet. The flowering stems are shorter than the
leaves and the showy flowers are often nestled within
the clumped foliage.
Early to mid-spring
The narrow pointed
leaves are arranged in clusters arising from a
network of rhizomes. Individual leaves are 4-10
inches long and ˝ inch wide.
'AIba' - White flowers.
'Shenandoah Sky' - PaIe blue, 6 inches tall.
'Summer Storm' - Deep
blue, 6 inches tall.
Similar to dwarf
lake iris (Iris lacustris) but more
robust with bigger flowers.
