The large, bright
yellow flowers, 2-3 inches wide, are solitary or
in groups of 2-3. The flowers have 5 petals and
5 sepals with numerous, erect stamens that
produce a powder puff appearance at the center
of the flower. This species has 5 styles at the
time of pollination, but in early anthesis the styles
appear as one.
Opposite leaves are
borne on 4 angled stems. The 2-4 inches long
leaves are ovate-oblong to oblong in shape with
a small point at the tip. The evergreen leaves
are glabrous, have an entire margin and are glaucous
on the lower surface.
