Biennial of rich deciduous woods.
 
Delicate violet flowers with 5 petals and a series of long, projecting stamens. Flowers are arranged in a loose cluster arising along the stem.
 
Pubescent (hairy) stems.
 
 
 

Similar in appearance to Broad-Leaved Waterleaf (BLW) which have white to pale violet, not pure violet flowers. Also the stem of BLW is smooth and not hairy.
