12-24 inches round habit with a fine texture.
Borne in panicled cymes, bracts, scarious, petals ¼-1 inch long, with purple veins. Flower colors include rose and purple. Plants have a misty, airy appearance when in flower.
Flowers for 6 weeks starting in early summer
Leaves linear-lanceolate, 1-2 inches long, 1-3 veined, glabrous
 

 
 
Gypsophlla comes from the Greek gypsos for gypsum and phillos, for friendship and alludes to the plants' supposed preference for gypsum rock.
