Various shades of yellow, orange, or red. The
pendulous flowers, 2 inches long, are clustered
at the terminal of a stout, naked stem. The
large inflorescence, composed of many individual
flowers, is topped by a sheaf of small leaves
that forms a tuft of green above the flowers.
The flowers have a slight skunk-like odor
so plant them away from the house or
sidewalk. A
drop of nectar forms near the tip of each petal,
appearing to defy the laws of gravity. |
