The 4 petaled yellow flowers are borne in axillary racemes. Flowers are ⅜-˝ inch long and have a tubular shape with a flared tip. The flowers resemble very small snapdragon flowers and bleeding heart flowers.
Late spring to fall. Peak bloom period is during the spring.
Gray-green leaves are 1-4 inches wide, long-petioled and 2-3 pinnately compound. The leaflets are obovate and are usually lobed. The foliage has a fern-like appearance.
