Brilliant scarlet, urn-shaped flowers are about an inch long and appear on the current year's growth.
Late August or sometimes in July and continues until frost.
Clematis requires a warm top (full sun to partial shade on the vine) and a cool bottom (shade on the root zone).
Crossed with
C. patens
to produce the cultivars 'Duchess of Albany' and 'Duchess of York'.
