Large, multi-stemmed shrub or small tree. Spreading,
rounded canopy.
15 to 25 feet or more sometimes.
Flower clusters are about 4 inches long
and are borne on the current year's growth, while those of
C. virginicusare borne on
the previous year's growth.
Dioecious.
May to June - May
exhibit alternate year flowering.
Leaves are only 4 inches long while
those of C. virginicus
are twice that length. Opposite, subopposite,
narrow-elliptic to oblong or obovate-oblong and
on some forms almost rounded, 3 to 8” long.
