Cerastium fontanum
Mouse Ear Chickweed
3-7
Eurasia

Prostrate, short-lived perennial which becomes a weed in lawns, gardens and waste lands. The plants might go dormant and appear to die back during hot, dry weather but they will bounce back following a rain.

Flowers have 5 notched petals which are not as deeply notched as they are in a similar weed called chickweed (Stellaria). Cylindrical capsules produce many seeds that remain viable in the soil for several years.

Stems often root at the lower nodes, forming a mat of conspicuously hairy, opposite leaves.
