Siberian Pea Shrub
 

Large, erect, oval shrub with moderate, sparse branches.
12-15 feet (up to 20 feet) tall with a spread of 8-10 feet
Flowers are bright yellow, ½-¾ inch long, in clusters of 1-4
Early to mid-May
Leaves are alternate, pinnately compound with 8-12 leaflets, each being ½-1 inch long, oval, with a sharp bristle tip.
Fall color is yellow-green.
 
Stems are green in color, with prominent spur growth on older stems and sporadic spines at the nodes.
Fruit is a pod, 1½-2 inches long, yellow-green changing to brown, ripening in August and forcibly ejecting the seeds with an explosion-like movement.
