Slender upright habit
4-6 feet tall and 2 feet wide
The green to pinkish flowers are borne in an erect panicle up to 15 inches long and ˝-1 inch wide. The flowers turn a straw color in summer.
Early summer. One of the first ornamental grasses to flower.
The leaves are dull green and hairless. The blades are finely pointed, up to 36 inches long and ˝ wide. The foliage is coarsely textured and rough to the touch.
 

  • 'Karl Foerster' - Karl Foerster's Feather Reed Grass - slightly smaller and blooms 2 weeks earlier than the species.
  • 'Bergfreund' - A bright yellow fall colon highlights this cultivar, 5-6 feet tall.
  • 'Karl Foerster' - An older selection with flower stems 6-7 feet tall.
  • 'Skyracer' - This 7-8' tall moor grass has a robust growth rate. It was introduced by Kurt Bluemel of Baldwin, Maryland.
  • 'Staefa' - This selection is shorter with flower stalks 4-5 feet tall.
  • 'Transparent' - The 5-6 feet tall flowering stems appear transparent. This cultivar will require a dark background for effective display.
  • 'Windspiel' - TalI-growing selection with golden-colored flowers, 6-7 feet tall.
