3-5 feet tall
Heads are 2 inches wide, crowded toward ends of branches in corymbose clusters ray flowers are usually violet-purple, ˝ inch long
Late summer to fall.
Alternate, lanceolate to broadly linear, to 5 inches long, entire, sessile or auriculate clasping to the stem. Upper leaf surface has a stiff pubescence while the lower surface has softer hairs.
 
 
  • 'Ada Ballard' - 36 inches, semidouble, lavender-blue flowers, should be staked.
  • 'Alert' - 12-15 inches, crimson red flowers.
  • 'Alice Haslam' - 12-15 inches, double dark rose-pink flowers.
  • 'Audrey' - 12 inches, lilac flowers.
  • 'Bonningdale White' - 40 inches, white double flowers with a yellow eye, late September flower
  • 'Crimson Brocade' - 36 inches, crimson, semidouble flowers.
  • 'Eventide' - 36 inches, semidouble violet blue flowers, 2 inches wide.
  • 'Jenny' - 12 inches, red flowers.
  • 'Patricia Ballard' - 36 inches, double pink flowers.
  • 'Peter Harrison' - 15-18 inches, pink flowers, profuse bloomer.
  • 'Professor Kippenberg' - 12-15 inches, lavender-blue flowers.
  • 'Red Star' - 15 inches, red flowers.
  • 'Snow Flurry' - 18 inches, large white flowers.
  • 'Snowball' - 10-12 inches, white flowers with yellow eyes.
  • 'White Lady' - 5-6 feet, white flowers, will need support.
  • 'Winston Churchill' - 24 inches, violet-red flowers with yellow center.
Note: The term, Michaelmas Daisy, applies to several species of tall asters that bloom during the Feast of the Archangel Michael which is celebrated chiefly in England on September 29th.
