Stout, erect perennial of open swamps and ditches
3 feet tall
Clusters of mauve, pink, or white flowers
 
Leaves are 3-6 inches long
 
 
 
Milkweeds have a unique pollinating mechanism. They have a pair of club-shaped pollen masses that are attached by flexible bands to a clip-like disk. These clips attach to an insect and the whole apparatus is carried to another milkweed flower.
