Allium senescens var. glaucum
Ornamental Onion
4-8
Southern Europe and Siberia

This species grows into a dense clump which is 12 inches tall when in flower and 6 inches wide.
Leafless stalks grow to 12 inches
The lilac or mauve colored flowers are borne in a globose inflorescence (umbel), 1 inch wide. The flowering stems are held above the lower swirls of leaves.
Mid to late summer.
The leaves are linear, flat, ¾ inch wide and have a slight twist which gives the entire foliage clump a swirled effect. Foliage color is gray-green and foliage height is 6 inches. If leaves are bruised, the foliage has an onion odor.
This species is easily grown in ordinary soil in sun or partially shaded sites. Although grown from a bulb, this species is a clump former and is easily lifted and divided as other non-bulbous perennials.
None serious.
