The flowers are terminal on stout flower scapes which
are 1˝-2 feet tall with an 18 inches spread.
The inflorescence is a many flowered umbel
which can be 8-10 inches wide. The outside of the sphere
is covered with deep lilac star shaped flowers ˝ wide.
Late
spring to early summer.
Leaves 3-7 per plant, strap-shaped, to 1 inch
wide. They are sometimes glaucous with a whitish-pubescence
on the lower leaf surface.
Full sun and a very well-drained
soil.
The bulbs are planted in the fall. New plantings and
established plantings benefit from
a winter mulch in areas with severe winters.
No serious problems.
The dried seed heads are excellent on the plant
or in a dried flower arrangement.

The flowering hcads of this ornamental species are as
much as 8-12 inches wide. The leaves are in. Wide, flowers are lilac colored with a starlike sheen and the plant is native to Asia Minor. Excellent for
drying and using in arrangements, blooming in early
June. In the North, it is best to plant the bulbs about
6 inches deep and if they are to be planted in a mass,
plant 8 inches apart.
