Flowers are
dioecious,
yellow-green, borne in 8-16 inch long panicles
in early to mid-June, the male flowers having a
foul and obnoxious odor. |

Leaves are alternate, pinnately
compound, 1˝-2 feet long, composed of 13-25
leaflets, each being 3-5 inches long,
lance-ovate with a truncate base, usually with a
small lobe on the upper half. |

Fall color is nonexistent. |

Bark is grayish, slightly
roughened, resembling an elephant's leg. Stems
are thick, club-like, foul smelling when
crushed, with very large and prominent half
moon-shaped leaf scars. |

Fruit is a yellow-green to
orange-red samara, 1-1˝ inches long, ripening
in September-October |
