Achillea tomentosa
Woolly Yarrow
3-7
Southern Europe and Western Asia
Low, mat forming
6-12 inches tall and 18 inches wide.
The yellow flower heads are very small, ¼ inch diameter and borne in dense 1½-2 inches diameter flat-topped corymbs.
June-September.
The leaves are fern-like - linear to lanceolate shaped, pinnately dissected and very woolly. The segments are very small and present a ferny texture. The foliage is aromatic when crushed.

Plant in full sun and a loose, well-drained soil. Woolly yarrow does poorly in areas with hot and humid weather.

  • 'Moonlight' - has pale yellow ray flowers and is somewhat less vigorous than the species.
