The yellow flower
heads are very small, ¼ inch diameter and borne in
dense 1½-2 inches diameter flat-topped corymbs.
June-September.
The leaves are
fern-like -
linear to lanceolate shaped, pinnately
dissected and very woolly. The segments are
very small and present a ferny texture. The
foliage is aromatic when crushed.
Plant in full sun
and a loose, well-drained soil. Woolly yarrow
does poorly in areas with hot and humid weather.
var. aurea ('Maynard's Gold') - gold-yellow flowers
are carried on 3-8 inches tall flower stalks.
'Moonlight' - has pale yellow ray flowers and
is somewhat less vigorous than the species.
