Yellowish flowers borne in May on 2 to 3 inch long racemes.
 
Simple, opposite leaves about 3 to 6 inches long. They do not have lobes which distinguishes it from many other species of maples.
 
Similar to A. capillipes, younger branches green or purplish red becoming striped with white.
 
 

 

 

  • ‘Ernest Wilson’ a small compact tree with lustrous dark green, triangular-shaped, bark is green with white stripes. Named for plant explorer, Dr. E.H. Wilson.
     

  • ‘George Forrest’ is a medium sized, more open growing form with attractive dark green, triangular shaped 3-lobed leaves; the young stems are rhubarb red and later become red with white stripes. Named for plant explorer, George Forrest.
