This genus consists of 3 species that are native to parts of Asia. This is a group of medium sized trees that have alternate, compound leaves and pyramidal spikes of small yellow leaves in the early summer. They produce a bladder like pod later in the summer. The genus is named for Joseph Gottlieb Kolreuter.
