This
is a genus where there is some disagreement
among
taxonomists as to what should be
included. That is why the estimates range
from between 100 to 250 species. It was
named after the Czech Jesuit botanist, Georg
Joseph Kamel.
There are hundreds and hundreds of named
cultivars of camellia commonly grown in warmer
temperate
or
subtropical
regions. Check out the
photos and you will see that many of them
have flowers in the pink range and are difficult
to distinguish from one another.
