Hosta flowers have two
reproductive parts. The pistil is the female organ and it
consists of a stigma, style and ovary where the seeds are
produced.
The male part of the
flower is called the stamen and it has two parts; the anther and
the filament. The anther is the fuzzy looking organ that sits
atop the stem-like filament. Pollen is produced in the anther.
As a genus, Hosta, has species that have one of two colored
anthers. The large majority of hostas have yellow anthers while
a smaller group have purple ones. Although a minor point, this
is one of the traits that may be used to narrow down the
identification process for hostas.
