Hosta 'Virginia Reel'

A hybrid of a sport of H. 'Crepe Suzette' × H. 'Riptide', this cultivar was registered by Judy Springer of Virginia in 2014. It forms a small size (9 inches high by 18 inches wide) mound of medium green leaves that are streaked or have a creamy yellow margin. The leaves are moderately flat and have a glaucous bloom on top.

The registration information says, "...margin starts greenish yellow and goes to pale yellow with small persistent variegated bracts..."

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...winner of the 1995 National Convention of The American Hosta Society Savory Shield Award as the best new seedling or sport in a tour garden...not offered for sale."

The specimen shown above is from the vendor's area of the National Convention of The American Hosta Society in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in June, 2014.
