This
hybrid of H. hypoleuca x
H. kikutii caput-avis was
registered by
Chick Wasitis of Bridgewood Gardens in Maryland in
2008. It is a large size plant with medium green foliage
that is narrowly ovate and has deep veins with reddish
purple petioles. It sets viable seeds.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...an outstanding breeding plant, but its beautifully
rippled, shiny green foliage also makes it a valuable
garden specimen."
Admiral
Halsey was a famous officer in the United States Navy during
World War II in the Pacific. His nickname was "Bull" Halsey. The
name of the Beatles' song is actually, "Uncle Albert/Admiral
Halsey" and both names have been used for hosta cultivars.
