Registered by Dr. Doug Beilstein of Ohio in
2018,
this medium size (15 inches high by 28 inches wide) cultivar is a seedling of H. 'King
of Spades'. The medium green foliage is broadly ovate,
slightly cupped, moderately wavy, slightly twisted,
deeply folded, heavily corrugated and slightly shiny on
top. Deep purple flowers on scapes about 19 inches tall
bloom in August. It sets viable seeds but only on the
top half of the scape according to the registration.
The registration materials state: "...This plant
enjoys a severe amount of puckers and for fun tries to
fold and shrivel up. It loves the uncontrolled reaction
of passers-by, similar to the reaction of drivers being
cut-off in traffic. You either LOVE it or HATE it."
The In The Country Garden & Gifts
website calls 'Road Rage' "Wild, crazy, ugly,
unique, weird, strange, awesome...no matter how you
describe it, this is one hosta that you'll either love
or hate!"
