Hosta 'Red Hot Poker'

This hybrid of H. 'Dorothy Benedict' × a seedling of H. 'Dorothy Benedict' was registered by Stuart Asch of Michigan in 2005. Forming a small size hosta about 10 inches high that spreads about 32 inches wide, this plant has leaves that are ovate shaped and slightly wavy. Its pale purple flowers bloom starting in August.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...notable for its combination of deep red scapes (bearing purple flowers)...it bears no resemblance to a H. 'Sieboldiana' in foliage or flower."

The originator made the following comment on the Fraternal Order of Seedy Fellows website: "This hosta has been produced by Walter's Garden and is currently in the market. Shiny, wavy and slightly cupped leaves have a beautiful cream/white edge. Little or no burn as well as minimal slug damage. Contrasting deep red scapes in July and August which makes for a striking plant."
