This cultivar was registered by
Ran Lydell of
Cooks Nursery and Eagle Bay Gardens in New York in 1994. It is a
sport of H. 'Lunar Orbit' which grows
into a large size hosta about 21 inches in
height with a spread of 42 inches. The medium gold leaves have a
dark green marginal variegation. It bears funnel shaped, pale
lavender flowers from mid-July into August.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "As much as I've tried, I cannot find any difference
between most specimens of 'Lunar Magic' and 'Lunar Orbit' (its
mother plant). 'Lunar Magic' is supposed to have wider green
margins, but after evaluating mature specimens in a few gardens,
it appears that the two are the same."
