This hybrid cultivar from
Paul Aden of New York was registered in 1976
as a hybrid of H. 'Aden
No. 270' × H. 'Aden
No. 275'. It grows to
large size about 18 inches in
height with a 40 inch spread. The base leaf color is chartreuse
but they are a heavily streaked and slightly corrugated. It
bears pale lavender flowers from late July into August followed
by viable seeds.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "Paul Aden utilized 'High Fat Cream' extensively in his
breeding program in the 1970s...The true form of 'High Fat
Cream', however, has become nearly extinct. A few hybridizers
have managed to keep at least part of their specimens
true-to-type, but its propensity to sport to more
stable forms
makes that difficult."
The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by
Diana
Grenfell (2009) states: "Slow to increase. Was a very popular breeding
plant but since the 1980s has been extremely rare."
