This
is one of those cases where there are two hostas
with the same name. One is registered and,
therefore, the "official" version of H. 'Happiness' while the other
is a non-registered plants and
need to be renamed to avoid further confusion.
This Tardiana-type seedling was
registered by the
British Hosta and
Hemerocallis Society (BHHS) in
1988 on
behalf of English hybridizer,
Eric Smith. It forms a medium size (18 inches high) mound of deep
blue-green foliage. Pale lavender flowers bloom from late July into August on purple dotted scapes.
Hosta Helper will call this plant
'Happiness' (Eric Smith).
H.
'Happiness' is listed as the pod parent of the
cultivar H. 'Mirth' by
Nagao Matsubayashi of Japan. Mark Zilis notes
that this 'Happiness' is not the one originated by
Eric Smith.
Hosta Helper will call this plant
'Happiness' (Japan).
