Hosta 'Hampshire County'

This cultivar is the result of the cross of (H. 'Banana Sundae' × H. 'Sea Drift') x H. 'Blue Shadows' that was registered by Wm and Eleanor Lachman of Massachusetts in 1993. The large size, 19 inch tall plant spreads to a width of about 44 inches. Its leaves are broadly ovate, moderately corrugated and have a thin bloom on the underside. They also have thick substance. The near white flowers bloom in June.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...is often thought of as a white-margined cultivar, for at least half of the growing season the margin color is an attractive gold. For inexplicable reasons, it has not become a popular plant."

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states: "Although it is an older introduction, it has been hard to find; now that its availability has improved, it is sure to be greatly in demand...A very noticeable seasonal change in leaf color, as leaves emerge blue-green with a pale yellow margin and by midsummer turn dark green with a white margin."
