A hybrid of H. 'Sagae' × H. hypoleuca, this cultivar was registered by Dr. Charles Purtymun of Walden West Nursery in Oregon in 1999. This giant size, upright growing plant grows to around 38 inches in height with a width of about 84 inches. The blue-green foliage is slightly rippled, nearly convex and has a curved tip. Semi-double, pale lavender flowers bloom from late July into August followed by viable seeds.

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states: "Thought to be tetraploid. An outstanding hosta which should be better known...Leaves are almost rubbery. Very large, semi-double flowers have a glaucous bloom."

Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) is best known as the author of Walden, a book about his attempt to return to a simpler way of life. He was also a poet, abolitionist, naturalist, historian and a person who resisted many facets of government.
