 Yet another hosta that has had
confusion associated with its name. As the name implies, it is a
giant size hosta growing about 30 inches high and around 70 inches wide. It
forms pale lavender flowers from late June into July.
The Hostapedia by
Mark Zilis (2009) states, "For some reason,
Liberty Hyde Bailey (1858-1954) considered this plant a
variety of Hosta fortunei. He was probably unaware of
H. montana
to which 'Fortunei Gigantea' is closely related. It has also
been sold as Hosta elata by many nurseries...In the
garden, 'Fortunei Gigantea' makes a magnificent, large specimen
plant."
This plant may have been sold at one time as
'Mackwoods No. 10'.
