This plant of unidentified parentage is part of the
Birchwood
Series of hostas originated by
Florence Shaw of Massachusetts in the 1960's.
It was registered by
Peter Ruh of Ohio in 1989. A small size mound of heart
shaped leaves, it bears pale purple flowers in July.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...excellent choice as an
edger, low ground cover, or rock garden plant. It bears a close
resemblance to
H. nakaiana."
"Plant is a selected, small clone of H. nakaiana or may be an F1 selfed
seedling. It has ridged scapes and is very similar to the species."
