H. nakaiana was registered by
Peter Ruh of Ohio on behalf of the originator,
LeRoy Davidson of Washington in 1991. It grows to a small size
about 12 inches high with a spread of around 24 inches. The
foliage is medium to dark green with a shiny underside. It bears
medium purple flowers from late July into August followed by red
seed pods. According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...primarily a cultivar of historical interest."
