Hosta 'Abiqua Ariel'

This hybrid of H. 'Aspen Gold' × an H. 'Golden Chimes' seedling was registered by Dr. Charles Purtymun and Jay Hyslop of Walden West Nursery of Oregon in 1999. The clump of blue-green (changing to greenish-yellow as the season progresses) foliage, grows about 8 inches high (small size) and 22 inches wide. Its leaves are broadly ovate and dull on top seedling . The near-white flowers bloom in late June in Oregon. It is sterile and does not produce seeds.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...gives the impression of being a bright gold 'Tokudama'-type."

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states in its Hosta Hybrids for Connoisseurs chapter: "Rare, but worth seeking out for its unusual, subtle leaf color...Subtle grayish bloom distinguishes it from those with golden-yellow leaves."

This is a fictional character from a Disney movie, The Little Mermaid.
