Along
the River Main through Frankfurt between the Lower Main Quay and the
Friedensbrücke is a small landscaped area called
Nizza Gardens. Created around 1860-70, it has citrus trees, palms,
cedars and many perennial beds.
This beautiful little area right along the river is well worth an hour or so
visit. It is surprising to find the subtropical plant
material in Germany but the moderating effect of the river
and local climate
allow them to grow and survive.
