Hostas are gaining popularity in Russia. An article in The British Hosta and Hemerocallis Society Journal (Autumn 2019) titled, Hosta Selections by Russian Collectors explored this relatively new phenomenon. Following the fall of the U.S.S.R. in the late 1980s, trade with the West opened up and the international trade of plants including hostas became more common.

The article included a limited survey among a few botanical gardens and major hosta collectors regarding their favorite cultivars. That resulted in the following list:
