Hans Hansen of Minnesota registered this sport of H. 'Squash Casserole' in 2005.
It varies from the mother plant by having a green marginal variegation. 'Yesterday's Memories' forms a large size (19 inches high x 42 inches wide)
mound with leaves that are are oblong-ovate with deep veins, average substance
and an unruly growth habit. Medium purple flowers bloom in July on scapes about
22 inches high. According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "How can success be insured when
developing a new cultivar? Well, start with a proven mother
plant, add a bit of variegation, and voila!, an instant winner.
I'm not sure if Hans Hansen looks at things that way, but
'Yesterday's Memories' certainly possesses all of the good
traits of 'Squash Casserole' (e.g. rippling, a good growth rate,
and great durability) and adds an attractive green margin."
Among
other things, this was a song by Eddy Arnold.
