This is a
tissue culture sport of
H. plantaginea which was
discovered by
Clarence (C.H.) Falstad, III
and registered by
Walters Gardens of Michigan in 1988. It was patented by
Clarence (C.H.) Falstad, III of Michigan
as H. plantaginea "White
Margin" in 1992
but that has since expired. The medium
size plant has green foliage with narrow, white marginal
variegation. From August into September, it bears large white,
fragrant flowers.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "Unfortunately, it has been a failure as a garden plant because
the margins disappear within a few years of planting."
